Wayfair notches ‘strongest quarter of growth’ since the pandemic

The retailer posted nearly 10% revenue gains and 4.7% growth in active customers in Q3, even as consumer spending habits change in the home category. “At the start of this year, we told you we expected to take share in the U.S. at a pace we had not seen in several years. With U.S. revenue growing double digits against a roughly flat category here in Q3, we've done exactly that,” Shah said in a statement Wednesday.

Outdoor Voices inks licensing deal for UK and EU
The activewear lifestyle brand is partnering with Focus Brands to expand into new markets, with an initial focus on wholesale and e-commerce. Outdoor Voices’ partnership with Focus Brands is intended to “introduce the brand to new consumers while maintaining the distinctive identity that has made Outdoor Voices a recognized name in American activewear.” Focus Brands has previously worked with sportswear and lifestyle brands including Nautica, Ellesse , K-Swiss, Patrick and Reebok, per the release. ‘This will normalize’: What Adidas’ Q3 reveals about the broader footwear market
CEO Bjørn Gulden acknowledged difficulties in the lifestyle footwear market but said growth won’t happen until “the market is clean.” Last week, Adidas put out Q3 results in line with its preliminary expectations for record sales and profits . Revenue was up 9% year over year with even stronger trends in DTC, which grew 17% year over year. CEO Bjørn Gulden said on a call with analysts that net sales have grown every quarter since Q1 of 2024, and the retailer has also notched an operating profit each quarter during that timeframe.

Hydro Flask, Osprey owner receives acquisition proposal valued at $1.6B
Empower Brands made an unsolicited offer to purchase all outstanding common stock at $37 per share, alleging Helen of Troy’s board destroyed shareholder value. Empower Brands presented a non-binding proposal to Helen of Troy’s board of directors to acquire all outstanding common equity for $37 per share after not reaching an agreement privately. That would put Helen of Troy — which operates brands such as Hydro Flask, Osprey and OXO — at an implied enterprise value of about $1.6 billion. Helen of Troy did not immediately respond to Retail Dive’s request for comment on the proposal.

At Home taps former CFO as new chief executive
Judd Nystrom returns to the company’s C-suite several years after supporting its move into the public trading market. At Home is betting on company experience by tapping a former executive as its new CEO. The denim label is officially part of the Authentic Brands Group stable and will expand into adjacent “lifestyle offerings.” The deal — which could add up to $1 billion based on Lee’s performance — was announced in May and closed Tuesday. Authentic has already lined up a series of operating partners for the denim brand, including One Jeanswear Group in the U.S. and Canada; Experience Group in Europe; HiMaxx in China; and Union Group in Mexico.

AI recommendations are leading to returns
The problem may not have to do with the technology itself, but rather the product description data, according to a new report. Despite the promise of deeper personalization, AI agents aren’t yet able to bypass the thorny issue of returns . However, the reasons for the return of AI-recommended products differ from those in more traditional retail channels. While incorrect size or fit is the most common factor leading to U.S. returns in general (42%), according to the survey, the most frequently cited problem with AI-recommended products is that the item doesn’t live up to its description.
