These 3 department stores need a good holiday

Kohl’s, J.C. Penney and — once again— Saks Fifth Avenue have a lot riding on this year’s shopping season. Department stores are in their element at the holidays, but this year the season will serve as a key test for three major players. The vast array of merchandise at department stores provides shoppers with the opportunity to check a lot off their lists. And they traditionally lean into the season with decorations, window displays and events to lure customers in.

Target overhauls Threshold home goods brand
The $3 billion private label has improved quality, merchandising and, in some cases, prices, and added more than 800 items to the assortment. Target has reworked its largest home goods private label, Threshold, part of a merchandising overhaul under CEO Michael Fiddelke. Threshold notches almost $3 billion annually, the retailer said Tuesday. As with other recent efforts from Target , there’s a focus on affordability. Prices on some Threshold items have been lowered, including a $20 price cut on certain comforters.

Walmart’s chief marketer breaks down retailer’s Muppet-fueled holiday campaign
“A Who Knew Carol” reworks the Muppet’s 1992 take on a Charles Dickens classic to spotlight product assortment, deals and express delivery offerings. Dollar General sued by FTC over ‘deceptive pricing practices’
The agency, along with 20 states, allege that customers are charged more at the register than prices displayed on tags and in ads. “Dollar General has betrayed the trust of millions of American consumers and imposed significant financial harm on communities and consumers who are already struggling to make their paychecks last,” Christopher Mufarrige, director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, said in a statement released Monday. Dollar General did not immediately respond to Retail Dive’s request for comment on the allegations.

Banana Republic debuts TikTok content series in bid for younger shoppers

CVS wants to sell more Pokémon, collectibles
The pharmacy retailer is expanding its assortment of toys and collectibles as adults fuel growth in those segments.
